HERNANDO - Action is off to a fast start in the Jr.StreetKing league taking place this month at the Hernando Civic Center.
"It's been outstanding," said RiverKing All-Star captain Derek Landmesser, who is coordinating the summer youth roller hockey league.
"We have a lot of kids out and the games, for the most part, are all very competitive."
In games played so far this season in the Bantam Division, the Sabres beat the FireAntz 6-3 on May 28 while the Panthers downed the FireAntz 8-4 on May 29.
On May 31, the Sabres out-scored the Panthers 9-7 and, on Monday night, the Panthers got past the FireAntz 6-4.
In scoring totals for the FireAntz, Holden Byrd has seven points on five goals and two assists while Andy Acklin, Taylor Hichings, Austin Sell, and Blaine Sisco, all have two points. Elisa Pogu and Ethan Vaughn each have one point.
For the Panthers, Josh Martin leads the way with 10 points on six goals and four assists. Alex Topper has eight points with six goals and two assists while Taylor Wilburn has four points on three goals and one assist. Andy Acklin and Cruz Ingerson each have three points while Alec Morris and Kyle Rogers each have two points, and Jesie Rushing has one point.
For the Sabres, Clyde Wiggins has nine points on six goals and three assists while Jonathan Williams has six points on four goals and two assists. Madison Rust has four points; Daniel Fontenot has three points; Nicholas Williams has two points; and, Cody Depriest and Matthew Williams each have one point.
In action in the Squirt Division, the Avalanche defeated the Pirates 10-5 on May 28 while the Blues beat the Pirates 11-2 on May 29.
On May 31, the Avalanche out-scored the Blues 11-7 and, on Monday night, the Blues turned back the Pirates 9-5.
For the Avalanche, the team is loaded as RiverKing head coach Kevin McClelland's sons are a major force on the rink.
Jack McClelland leads the team with nine points on seven goals and two assists while Austin Wiggins has eight points on five goals and three assists. Max McClelland seven points on four goals and three assists as Matty McClelland has three points, and Gary Pitts and Toni Viglietti each have two points.
The Blues are led by Blaine Sisco with a league-high 19 points on 15 goals and four assists.
C.J. Bynum has seven points on five goals and two assists; Josh Eaves has four points; Micheal Dlugach has three points; Cooper Ellis has scored two points; and, JoJo Depriest has one point.
For the Pirates, Reagan Rust leads the way with six points on six goals while Zachary McLain and Abby Miller each have four points.
Britt Whitfield has scored two points as James Green and Joshiah Miller each have one point.
Games will continue through the championships on June 30.
The Jr. StreetKings will hold two more summer camps.
There will be a "Learn to Skate Camp" for beginners where they will learn to skate and also the fundamentals on the basics of hockey.
These will include skating, then skating with a stick and a brief introduction to the game of hockey. This camp will provide the groundwork for further development in the sport.
There will be two different camps (children permitting) - a morning camp and an afternoon camp.
The camp will run from July 24-28.
The morning camp will be from 9 a.m. to noon and the afternoon camp will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The cost will be $100 per child for this camp.
There will also be a "Summer Camp" for young people that know how to skate.
This camp will focus on the more advanced aspects of hockey - drills, plays, conditioning, and strengthen skating, stick handling, passing and shooting.
During fun time, the participants will also play baseball, soccer, soccer baseball, with moon bounces and water slide.
This camp will run from July 30 to Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost for this camp will be $150.
RiverKings players will be on hand as instructors for all camps.
